\u20133\u2013<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\nAnd if you\u2019re a video creator (and a Ph.D. candidate), you should definitely check out the \u201c Dance Your Ph.D<\/a>\u201d contest. \u00a0It\u2019s exactly what it sounds like: a challenge to summarize your research in dance, rather than PowerPoint or 200 page tome. \u00a0Here\u2019s one of last year\u2019s winners \u201c Directed transport without net bias in physics and biology<\/a>\u201d\u00a0from\u00a0 Steven Lade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\n<p>Should cheer you up if you\u2019re stuck with a bad project\u2026<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Zheng Lab - Bad Project (Lady Gaga parody)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fl4L4M8m4d0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>(I\u2019m so glad I tried wet bench work in high school, so I realized early I didn\u2019t want to do it. \u00a0And the year I put in was enough to reap all the thrills of recognizing equipment in the costumes above).<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: x-large;\">\u20134\u2013<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Elsewhere in the world of science, researchers build an apparatus to keep donor organs alive and functional for longer outside the body. \u00a0It\u2019s an exciting step in medicine, and as a bonus, means you can watch a heart beat outside the body at 1:02.<\/p>\n<p>[the video is no longer available]<\/p>\n<p>How amazing is it to remember that, inside your chest, your heart is thrashing like that all the time? And if you want a reminder that the heart is breathtakingly delicate, as well as wonderfully strong, this picture of the angel veins (the vessels that supply the heart with blood) should do the trick. All other parts of the heart have been removed.
