An objection I\u2019ve heard often relates to health. Critics will point to health disparities between gay and straight people (higher depression, suicides, std\u2019s among gay people), and say this is reason to avoid gay relationships.<\/p>\n

I think I\u2019ve seen people point to higher rates of other undesired actions, like drug use, promiscuity, and break-up rates among gay people.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First of all, I love empirical predictions, so many thanks to Nolan.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0definitely\u00a0true that gay people are at higher risk for depression and suicide, but the data don\u2019t tell us why<\/em>. \u00a0Is it because they\u2019re living out of accord with their nature and God\u2019s plan, and the\u00a0incongruity\u00a0rankles or is it that gay people are treated uncharitably and intolerantly, and the cruelty, directed at a core part of their identity is intensely destabilizing?<\/p>\n

The data fit either explanation, so these findings don\u2019t improve the case against an active, homosexual life.<\/p>\n

The kind of data we should probably be looking for instead is longitudinal data from multiple countries and track gay depression\/suicide rates against expansions of gay rights and decreasing feelings of repulsion by homosexuals. \u00a0This data won\u2019t prove<\/em> causation, but it may be suggestive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, in all\u00a0probability, the longitudinal data doesn\u2019t exist<\/em> or is really misleading. \u00a0You can\u2019t track gay\u00a0suicides\u00a0or gay depression if, in the past, the only queer people out were the ones who got caught<\/em>.<\/p>\n
