{"id":348,"date":"2010-09-11T10:03:00","date_gmt":"2010-09-11T10:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/unequallyyoked\/2010\/09\/rcia-update-and-a-question-for-readers\/"},"modified":"2012-08-25T14:08:38","modified_gmt":"2012-08-25T18:08:38","slug":"rcia-update-and-a-question-for-readers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/unequallyyoked\/2010\/09\/rcia-update-and-a-question-for-readers.html","title":{"rendered":"RCIA update and a question for readers"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>While I\u2019m gearing up for tomorrow\u2019s kickoff of the new posting series (the topic is exploring the only religion I\u2019ve ever wished I could join), I\u2019ve been trying to do a bit of basic blogging housekeeping, and I have some questions for the readers.<\/p>\n<p>Some time ago, a Catholic blogger who had stumbled upon this site <a href=\"http:\/\/stmonicasbridge.wordpress.com\/2010\/07\/09\/being-open-and-honest-or-not-so-much\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">shared her disappointment<\/a> with her readers.\u00a0 She was most put off by my Burden of Proof page, which I\u2019ve since revamped (though I\u2019ve buried a post containing the old version at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unequally-yoked.com\/2010\/06\/burden-of-proof-before-and-after.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this link<\/a>, if anyone\u2019s interested).\u00a0 To her, I had come off as more interested in victory than truth.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The last line of her \u201cBurden of Proof\u201d is what made me wish I had never stumbled across this blog. \u201cI\u2019m in it to win it.\u201d I\u2019m not in it to learn something or anything to try to understand your point of view or your beliefs, I\u2019m in it to prove I\u2019m right and you\u2019re wrong.<\/p>\n<p>This blog, to me, is a great example of what secularism, humanism does at its core. It destroys our empathy. It makes us self-centered. It encourages our mania and destructive competition. It turns the world into a kill or be-killed arena.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t able to have a dialogue with her, since my comments didn\u2019t go through on her site, but it troubles me.\u00a0 I do want Christians who come to the blog to not be too put off, since I want them to stick around long enough to ask me hard questions and possibly answer some as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Therefore, I\u2019d like to throw to comment thread open to any suggestions for or problems with the blog that I should be mindful of.<\/strong>\u00a0 Especially as I (hopefully) am approaching getting to share my thoughts with you on upcoming RCIA classes, I want to make sure I\u2019m not offending by accident.\u00a0 Thanks for your feedback!\u00a0 I\u2019m all ears.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_b7Eh98KJ_qI\/TIreHaiukqI\/AAAAAAAABDA\/dm_P7LArUos\/s1600\/listening.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_b7Eh98KJ_qI\/TIreHaiukqI\/AAAAAAAABDA\/dm_P7LArUos\/s320\/listening.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"187\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oh, and speaking of RCIA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The blogger I cited above was originally miffed, in part, because I\u2019d changed the original tagline of the blog \u201cAn atheist tries RCIA\u201d to the current line: \u201cA geeky atheist picks fights with her Catholic boyfriend.\u201d\u00a0 Most of my atheists friends had never heard of RCIA so I wanted remove any confusion, but she thought I had been being disingenuous.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, then, as now, I\u2019m still waiting to hear if I\u2019ll be allowed to attend classes at the local parish.\u00a0 I would be interested in learning about Catholicism exactly as the Church likes to teach it (especially because it will lighten the load on my boyfriend, who I sometimes treat as The Idiot\u2019s Guide to Catholicism).
