Whelp, it looks like you won\u2019t be seeing that much of me over the course of the week. \u00a0You know it\u2019s bad when you\u2019re upset that the power company dealt with the live wire lying across your street. \u00a0It may have been a hazard, but it was supplying me with sweet, sweet, electricity. \u00a0The cell towers in my neighborhood have been hit pretty bad by the storm, too, so I can\u2019t even keep up with Google Reader and comments with my phone. \u00a0Don\u2019t worry about me, though. \u00a0I\u2019ve got a maglite, batteries, and books.<\/p>\n

So, in the meantime, I\u2019ll be throwing up about a post per day linking you to some interesting longer form post elsewhere. \u00a0If I cadge time and wifi in a Starbucks, I may do some shorter posts of my own. \u00a0But no guarantees; it\u2019s a\u00a0mishegas over here. \u00a0To wit:<\/p>\n

In case you can\u2019t tell, that\u2019s two shaped loaves of Extra Tangy Sourdough Bread<\/a> riding the DC metro with me. \u00a0You see, they were halfway through rising when the power cut out, and the nice people at the King Arthur Baker\u2019s Helpline<\/a> told me I\u2019d have to bake them soon or lose the dough.<\/p>\n

I walked up and down my street, knocking on doors and asking the neighbors if they had an over that was controlled by knobs, not electrical inputs. \u00a0No dice. \u00a0I tried to figure out if DC has a Cory Booker equivalent, but nothing doing. \u00a0So I walked a block or two over, where I had cell service, and started calling all my DC friends, til I found someone in Adams Morgan with power.<\/p>\n

The bread actually still turned out delicious (though I have to cut the very bottom off of each slice, since I mistook wax paper for parchment paper). \u00a0And it\u2019s a lucky thing, since we\u2019re throwing out everything in the fridge today, and it looks like I\u2019ll be living on (really yummy) bread and water.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
