I will miss easy access to NYC, but, dear heavens, I love the Exploratorium<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>

Posts have been a little scarce on the ground here, because I\u2019m in the middle of prepping to change jobs and change coasts. \u00a0Scrapping with everyone about religion, philosophy, and musical theatre is fun, but it\u2019s not how I earn my living.<\/p>\n

I have sometimes said that, in my dream job, I would have a badge that said \u201cMethodology Cop\u201d and I would be allowed to kick in doors and help people overhaul their research projects and interventions. \u00a0\u201cMa\u2019am, I need you to step away from that convenience sample!\u201d<\/em> \u00a0That\u2019s not quite the job I\u2019m about to start, but I\u2019m nearly as excited.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t much mentioned my current job on the blog, because this blog isn\u2019t intended to reflect the opinions or work of my employer, and that\u2019s not going to change now. \u00a0There\u2019s no reason to link them together on Google. \u00a0But, to speak generally, since I graduated from college, I have been working at a DC policy\/lobbying shop on bank reform. \u00a0I got to be the stats maven for the team, and have really enjoyed working with wonky people.<\/p>\n

Starting Tuesday, I\u2019ll be in Berkeley, California, working for an education-y kinda start-up-y, non-profit. \u00a0I got to do a short tryout with them, and I\u00a0loved<\/em> it. \u00a0The people are smart, clever, and kind, and the work is interesting and useful. \u00a0I really like work that feels like\u00a0translation<\/em>, where I get to take an interesting fact, skill, or concept and see how it fits together with something unexpected. \u00a0Or when I get to take a research finding and figure our where it\u2019s relevant in quotidian life and how to explain it so it sounds as interesting as it is.<\/p>\n

(Oh, and since there\u2019s a big teaching component to this job, I get to do a lot of\u00a0talking<\/em>. \u00a0My cup runneth over, obviously).<\/p>\n

The second to last time I was teaching in the Bay Area<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Not much will change for readers of this blog, but, as I try and figure out how to pack all my armor<\/a>, bustle skirts<\/a>, and\u00a0all the books in the world<\/em><\/a>, there\u2019s something you can do to help me out. \u00a0If you know anything at all about the Bay Area, I\u2019d quite appreciate recommendations for any interesting Catholic groups\/listservs (I\u2019m sorry to be missing the Lenten lecture series at the Dominican House of Studies<\/a>). \u00a0My parish in DC was lovely and vibrant, and I\u2019d like to be able to meet more nerdy enthusiasts out west (who keep cracking liturgical jokes).<\/p>\n

Also, I\u2019d appreciate any general Berkeley recommendations (especially theatre events, lectures, etc). \u00a0I had a bigger network of people to draw on in DC than I will in my new home, so I want to know where I\u2019ll be finding my new friends.<\/p>\n

There will still be posts this week (though, again, it\u2019s possible they\u2019ll be a bit slower than usual), and, starting next week, the guest posts from the Math and Theology bookclub<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finally, tonight is my farewell party, and my friends are all coming over to read\u00a0Arcadia<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0I\u2019m very tempted to reprise the reading for my first theatre party in Berkeley, but, since I\u2019m taking Septimus Hodge tonight, I may switch to Bernard when I arrive.<\/p>\n
