I watched a lot of footage of Andre, and that\u2019s one of the things that, once you start looking at how big his hands are and comparing them to the things in the shot with them, is amazing. He\u2019d shake hands with people and their hands would just get completely buried in his giant hand. I know there\u2019s a handprint in stone somewhere, where you can compare your hand to his.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a video that I believe the AWA made back in the day, and Andre\u2019s in it. You just see a Jeep Wrangler, and you see his hand coming out and opening the door, and his hand takes up almost the whole door. It\u2019s a good example of how much larger he is than the average person.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CA:<\/strong> Even the Andre shirts that WWE sells just have the handprint on them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BB:\u00a0<\/strong>I was thinking about that. You\u2019d have to take the measurements of the mold and find what the actual size was, because that would be a cool tattoo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CA:<\/strong> I love the way it\u2019s used as this recurring motif in the book. There\u2019s a shot of it at the beginning, then you see it again in the fight with Chuck Wepner, where it\u2019s even bigger than Wepner\u2019s boxing glove. You have him putting his hand on Robin Wright\u2019s head to warm her up.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/84\/2014\/05\/Andre04.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-9399\" title=\"Andre04\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/84\/2014\/05\/Andre04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"504\" height=\"566\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 130%;\"><a name=\"qt2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><strong><a style=\"color: black; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"#qt2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">\u2014 2 \u2014<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love\u00a0<em>The Princess Bride<\/em>, and, when I read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0156035219\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0156035219&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unequyoked-20&amp;linkId=OQQKW7TNG3NIFXI2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the book<\/a>, I really believed that William Goldman has adapted it from\u00a0\u00a0S. Morgenstern\u2019s classic tale of True Love and High Adventure. \u00a0 In college, I got to play Miracle Max in a heavily adapted version of the story for five and six year olds.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9402\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9402\" style=\"width: 431px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/84\/2014\/05\/princess-bride.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9402    \" title=\"princess bride\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/84\/2014\/05\/princess-bride.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"307\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9402\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L to R, Count Rugen, my good friend (a soldier), me, Prince Humperdink<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s the only part I successfully auditioned for at Yale, and I remain confident I won it solely on the basis of my very Miracle Max-y hair.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 130%;\"><a name=\"qt3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><strong><a style=\"color: black; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"#qt3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">\u2014 3 \u2014<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So you can imagine my delight when I was reading <a href=\"http:\/\/the-toast.net\/2014\/04\/29\/protagonist-flaws\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Toast\u2019s list of Flaws Only A Protagonist Could Have<\/a> and ran across this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI just don\u2019t know what to do with this,\u201d her hairdresser moaned, comically letting his arms fall to his side. \u201cYour hair is just so wild and unmanageable, a lot like you. It can\u2019t be tamed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeither can I,\u201d she said, and she roundhouse kicked him in the face, and then she ran outside to find a real man who could handle someone who played as hard as she worked.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Though I think my favorite was:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYou\u2019re so\u00a0<em>noble<\/em>,\u201d the villain sneered, because he\u2019d totally expected him to do that noble thing he\u2019d just done but he was totally secretly impressed. \u201cNot like me. I do whatever I want. So why do I secretly admire and maybe even love you a little bit?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhoa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait,\u201d the villain said. \u201cI didn\u2019t mean to say that last part. What I meant was why does your goodness shine through the light of my evil deeds and make me wish I was worth of you somehow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait,\u201d the villain said again. \u201cYou\u2019re noble in a bad way, not a good way,\u201d but it was too late. He was secretly good now, and they were going to become heroic friends.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Given the number of friends I make by arguing with them, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever be able to stop hearing \u201cMaybe we\u2019ll be\u00a0<em>heroic friends<\/em>\u201d in my head after a debate any more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 130%;\"><a name=\"qt4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><strong><a style=\"color: black; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"#qt4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">\u2014 4 \u2014<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the best parts of having formerly villainous friends is that, presumably, you get to use their doomsday machines for non-doom-y purposes. \u00a0And that might look a little like this series of videos <a href=\"http:\/\/space.io9.com\/destroy-all-the-things-1568568595\/+charliejane\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">General Electric put together using their stress test machines to break other stuff<\/a>. \u00a0The skateboard wheel below is my favorite, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K2uo7gXQLaU\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the baseball<\/a> is really fun, too.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RYL7VyKxk9g\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RYL7VyKxk9g<\/a>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 130%;\"><a name=\"qt5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><strong><a style=\"color: black; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"#qt5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">\u2014 5 \u2014<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now, if you want to know more about things\u00a0<em>not<\/em> being dramatically destroyed, you\u2019ll want to check out this piece from\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em> on how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/04\/25\/nyregion\/museumgoers-wonder-why-doesnt-the-whale-fall.html?ref=todayspaper\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the Museum of Natural History attached the giant blue whale to the ceiling<\/a>. \u00a0I loved this part:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-para-count=\"414\" data-total-count=\"4049\">According to Stephen Christopher Quinn\u2019s book, \u201cWindows on Nature\u201d about the museum\u2019s dioramas, Lyle Barton, the museum manager in charge of installing the whale in 1968, was so anxious that something would go wrong that he got a rod the exact distance from the whale\u2019s chin to the floor. While the rest of the hall was being completed, he would make certain every day that the whale was holding its own.<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"362\" data-total-count=\"4411\">The crew building the exhibit so resented Mr. Barton\u2019s lack of confidence, Mr. Quinn writes, that they dribbled an imperceptible bit of glue on the rod each morning until enough layers had accumulated so that when Mr. Barton checked one day, the rod no longer fit underneath the whale\u2019s chin.
