The call of today\u2019s anti-gay Christians is, \u201cStop calling us bigots, everyone! Just because we believe what the Bible says about homosexuality doesn\u2019t make us bigots!\u201d<\/p>\n

So, let\u2019s think about that.<\/p>\n

Pertinent question #1:<\/strong> When, if ever, does<\/em> the anti-gay Christian irrefutably become a bigot?<\/p>\n

Answer? The moment that he or she does\u00a0anything whatsoever<\/em> to restrict the rights of any other person, based upon the fact that that person is gay.<\/p>\n

It is not\u00a0beliefs<\/em>\u00a0that make a bigot. It is actions.<\/p>\n

If you vote against gay marriage, or gay rights, you are a bigot, as surely as anyone who voted against civil rights in the 60\u2019s was a bigot.<\/p>\n

If you preach against gay rights\u2014no matter how high your pulpit\u2014you are a bigot.<\/p>\n

If you write against gay rights, you are a bigot.<\/p>\n

If you give your money or time to any Christian church, organization, or ministry that you know in any way actively works to restrict or limit gay rights, you are a bigot.<\/p>\n

If, in private, you intimate to anyone that you don\u2019t think gay people should be allowed to get married, you are a bigot.<\/p>\n

No one wants<\/em> to be a bigot, of course: not even the most virulent KKK member will claim that repelling appellation for him or herself. But bigot is as bigot does.<\/p>\n

And since it\u2019s impossible for a person to hold a conviction\u2014especially one based on religious beliefs\u2014that they don\u2019t in\u00a0some way<\/em>\u00a0live out, it is, alas, safe to claim that any and every Christian who believes that gay people shouldn\u2019t have every last moral and legal right they claim for themselves is a bigot.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t be in the KKK and claim that you\u2019re not a bigot; you can\u2019t be opposed to LGBT rights and claim that you\u2019re not a bigot. Well, you can, of course. But if you do, you are fooling no one, least of all God.<\/p>\n

Pertinent question #2:<\/strong>\u00a0Does<\/em>\u00a0the Bible say that being gay is a sin?<\/p>\n
