The \u2018Word\u2019 is the Word above\u2014and beyond\u2014all words.<\/p>\n

Ineffable.<\/p>\n

Unspeakable.<\/p>\n

Speechless.<\/p>\n

Silent.<\/p>\n

Shouting.<\/p>\n

To say that God is beyond the sign \u2018God\u2019 is not a statement nor an argument: it is an invitation into mystery, into the<\/em> mystery.<\/p>\n

Notice: the markings on this screen guide you, but the thing they are trying to say<\/em> cannot be spoken\u2014or written.<\/p>\n

They must be shown<\/em>, given, revealed.<\/p>\n

These markings, that weave lines and things we call \u2018letters,\u2019 that sit in a posture we call \u2018writing,\u2019 hide and conceal something deeper: something beyond what they can show, give, or reveal.<\/p>\n

The beyond is calling out from where we cannot go.<\/p>\n

God is not only beyond all other<\/em> gods\u2014God is beyond \u2018God.\u2019<\/p>\n

God in excess: an ocean poured into a thimble, but bigger and smaller\u2014indeed, beyond the very concept of \u201csize.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, God beyond \u2018God\u2019 does not abandon us to the poverty of our expression, to wallow in our miserably inadequate shapes and colors: these markings, lines, and squiggles that form things we call \u2018words\u2019 and \u2018sentences\u2019 and build things we call \u2018books,\u2019 sign us towards a reality that is the greatest sign, the only cup we can drink from with hope\u2014LOVE, Love, love.<\/p>\n

What is God beyond \u2018God\u2019?<\/p>\n

Everything, both said and unspeakable\u2014and beyond the very phenomenon of speech and speaking. (Beyond being?)<\/p>\n

What can possibly hold a single drop of this \u201ceverything\u201d?<\/p>\n
