Have you ever been reading a book and feel yourself\u00a0whisked away to a completely\u00a0different\u00a0place or time? Have you ever read\u00a0a book and a few chapters in have the\u00a0answer\u00a0to a problem that has been\u00a0plaguing\u00a0you for weeks? Well then you might be a Bibliomancer. I have never met anyone in the pagan community that has said \u201cI don\u2019t like books\u00a0and\u00a0I will never read them\u201d\u00a0in fact\u00a0it\u00a0is quite the opposite.\u00a0If you are like me then you have stacks of books all over the house, you have 50+ books in your Amazon\u00a0cart, and a list you want to\u00a0borrow\u00a0from a\u00a0friend.<\/p>\n
Ever since I was a child I had a hard time \u201cfocusing\u201d when I was reading books. I was constantly\u00a0in trouble\u00a0for being a slow reader and a daydreamer. At one point my parents got me glasses for my 20\/20 vision just so I could focus. Needless to say it never worked. As I grew older,\u00a0I came up with tricks to train myself to focus;\u00a0eating while reading, constantly moving or fidgeting etc. You see my problem was not the fact that I couldn\u2019t focus,\u00a0the problem was that by the time I reached paragraph three I was in a completely\u00a0different world.<\/p>\n
Recently my mentor and I have decided to read the \u201cWhite Goddess\u201d for a project we are working on. If you have read it or even seen it you know it is a hard, long book and the language isn\u2019t the easiest to read. I highly respect Robert Graves for his monumental work, but we have spent more time\u00a0on the phone talking about how hard the book is that actually reading it. My mentor recently called me and said \u201cI have figured it out!\u201d and she began to unravel her method of reading the book. As she spoke I was astounded, I had been doing this since I was a child. Why didn\u2019t I think of this? What an amazing concept! Read the book through divination,\u00a0gain the knowledge of the book and the hidden meanings in both the book and the subconscious!<\/p>\n
How does\u00a0biblomancy\u00a0work? \u00a0One\u00a0simple\u00a0way is to\u00a0let spirit guide you to a book.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0For example,\u00a0if the subject is about love then grab a romance novel, or a spell book on love. Ask\u00a0your question and close your eyes,\u00a0allow\u00a0your fingers to open the book, to any place in the book, front back middle etc. Slowly flip through the pages and ask your\u00a0question\u00a0over and over again. When you feel your hand snag on a page, or when you feel that \u201cyes\u00a0this is the page\u201d then stop,\u00a0open your eyes and begin to read.\u00a0Is the page positive? This would be a yes.\u00a0Is the page negative? This would be no.\u00a0Do the words on the page form the answer for you?<\/p>\n
This\u00a0is not the only way to\u00a0biblomance. As you progress and become more comfortable,\u00a0take it to the next level\u00a0by inducing\u00a0a trance through reading. \u00a0If you are a regular trance\u00a0practitioner then this should be a wonderful addition to your trance work. If you are new,\u00a0no worries! Sit in a comfortable position, back straight, and legs crossed if you wish. \u00a0Push the shoulders down, extend the neck up and head forward this will help to ease you into a trance state. As you begin to read,\u00a0you allow the words to take you somewhere. \u00a0Do not worry about the content but just say the words one after another, allow yourself to be free, and remember that you are not reading for the content. If you reach the bottom of the page\u00a0without\u00a0any luck then go back to the top and read the same page. If you try this several times with no luck, then try a different page or book. Remember that the words must trigger the mind shift, so let it be a book that you really resonate with. If you\u00a0want\u00a0to work with the\u00a0Fae,\u00a0then don\u2019t read a\u00a0science fiction\u00a0novel.\u00a0If you\u00a0are trying to connect with Isis, don\u2019t read a book on herbalism, but find a book that is about Isis. As you begin to shift into the other world allow yourself to go. This can be the hardest part,\u00a0letting\u00a0the imagination run\u00a0free; the\u00a0imagination\u00a0is\u00a0the bridge to the other side. Without this bridge,\u00a0you\u00a0cannot\u00a0cross\u00a0the veil.\u00a0Be sure\u00a0to keep a notebook handy and write down your\u00a0experiences.\u00a0You may find that other body positions are better\u00a0such as\u00a0reading on a couch or lying\u00a0down. If you happen to slip into a dream state let yourself drift off.<\/p>\n
Though many\u00a0people have not heard\u00a0of\u00a0or\u00a0practiced bibliomancy,\u00a0it is\u00a0actually\u00a0a popular practice, and is featured in many films, and books. Alice in wonderland is a prime example. \u00a0In the first paragraph of Lewis\u00a0Carroll\u2019s\u00a0work\u00a0\u201cAlice\u2019s Adventures in\u00a0Wonderland\u201d, more commonly known as\u201d Alice in\u00a0Wonderland\u201d,\u00a0she is sitting on the bank, (a tween place) and was peeking at the book her sister was reading.\u00a0Just a few lines later\u00a0is\u00a0when the rabbit appears, and down the rabbit hole she goes. Alice\u00a0in\u00a0Wonderland\u00a0is more than just an example of biblomancy, but it is also a shamanic underworld journey. As your bibliomancy skills increase with practice, take it to the next level\u00a0and begin to journey. I hope that you have many wonderful meditations, and that the words on the pages part the veil for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
