Here\u2019s a clip from PBS\u2019s Nova on dogs and humans. There\u2019s a particularly fascinating part at about 4:40 about how our faces are divided and the right side shows our truer emotional state. We are programmed to scan the right side of the face to get a read on another person\u2019s state of mind \u2013 and so are dogs. They don\u2019t do that with other dogs, just humans. There\u2019s other good stuff about how we co-evolved.
