Now you might be surprised as I was to learn that the gap between rich and poor is similar in the US, although the poor often live a bit better. For now. Which also means that the super wealthy here are even wealthier.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\">If you\u2019re interested, check out this article by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/07\/opinion\/07kristof.html?src=me&amp;ref=general\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Nicholas Kristoff, \u201cOur Banana Republic.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\">\u201cThe richest 1 percent of Americans now take home almost 24 percent of income, up from almost 9 percent in 1976.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\">And with the developments in the dreaded Mid Terms, it\u2019s likely to get worse. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: large\">For example<\/span><span style=\"font-size: large\">, take the upcoming tax cuts (while we have a deficit of $100 gadzillion).\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\">\u201c<span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>The richest 0.1 percent of taxpayers would get a tax cut of $61,000 from President Obama. They would get <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxpolicycenter.org\/taxtopics\/TCE_Pres_v_CP.cfm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">$370,000 from Republicans,<\/a><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'> according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>How could that be justified?\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>I\u2019m not whining about myself here. My income is north of the $21,000 poverty line. But I work with people on the bottom of the bottom and I see the impacts inequality has. It just ain\u2019t right that some would have so much when others don\u2019t have three squares.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>With our calm minds and clarity, <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>dharma<\/a> people had better start speaking up.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\">You might grumble like some have in comments that I get from time-to-time when I warn about the post-peak oil collapse, etc., that you\u2019d prefer I stuck to dharma comments in this old blog.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>Imho, injustice is a dharma issue.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\">And if the dharma has nothing to offer to the current political discourse, then that is one lame dharma.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/4330911338438640912-8413415515174854818?l=wildfoxzen.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Above is Caracas, Venezuela.
