Here\u2019s a brief post (all about me me me, of course).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

First off, you might notice that shiny new award notice over on the right sidebar for one of 50 best Buddhist<\/a> blogs. It\u2019s really going to my already inflated ego and so I\u2019m wondering about the motivation of those blog awards rascals.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I smell a conspiracy! \u201cLet\u2019s see if we can mess with the Buddhists by telling them how good they are. They\u2019ll get all arrogant and then they\u2019ll realize that they\u2019ll have to repent and turn to Jesus\u2026.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So I\u2019ll just leave the button hanging there for a year or so and then humbly remove it. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Secondly, I\u2019m off again tomorrow, this time to sesshin with James Ford and his Boundless Way Zen folks. I\u2019ve been doing koan study with James and I\u2019m looking forward to being a participant in sesshin. I haven\u2019t been in the participant seat for quite a long time, maybe back to 2002. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When a friend recently asked why I was studying koans again I said, \u201cIt makes me happy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s partly true. It\u2019s also humiliating and frustrating but I love suffering in a Zen way. Me me me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Thirdly and to that end, I\u2019m planning on offering what I\u2019ve been working through by offering some practice at Heartwood Mindfulness Center in\u00a0 the big city of Minneapolis (with James\u2019 support, btw). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday, August 16, 7pm, I\u2019ll kick it off with a talk called Breakthrough Zen<\/i> and continue on Monday nights in the fall with a series on the Mu koan from the Dogen Zen, nongaining perspective.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s Dogen Zen, of course, as I personally and oh-so-deeply misunderstand it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Me me me.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, and I have been so busy taking care of life between these trips that I didn\u2019t report on the American Zen Teachers\u2019 conference. Well, it was very nice.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
