Here\u2019s the Foulk translation of the sentence:\n<p><i>If your preparations are true, then your movements and activities will naturally become the deeds of nurturing the womb of the sage.   <\/i><\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s the Leighton and Okumura translation from <i>Dogen\u2019s Pure Standards for the Zen Community<\/i>:<\/p><\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><i>If you sincerely arrange the implements and prepare the food, all of your conduct and performance becomes the activity for the sustained development of a womb of sages.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>Leighton and Okumura note that the sustained development of a womb of sages (or <i>shotai choyo<\/i> in Japanese) is the usual term for practice after enlightenment.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>Victor Hogen Sori has this about <i>shotai choyo<\/i> (<a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=VIYREaBbOUYC&amp;pg=PA145&amp;lpg=PA145&amp;dq=shotai+choyo&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=LBsIalbq2C&amp;sig=1TruZFuzPsB-XCzDpIATqSD78dQ&amp;hl=en&amp;ei=Ws63S6vUG4LCNey_peIL&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=book_result&amp;ct=result&amp;resnum=1&amp;ved=0CAYQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&amp;q=shotai%20choyo&amp;f=false\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">click here for full essay<\/a>) in contemporary Rinzai Zen:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>\u2026the Zen practitioner who has finished his formal training engages in an informal training in which he thoroughly detaches himself from his accomplishments and willingly assumes anonymity for service to others.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>Hori tells of Daito Kokushi finishing his formal training and then living under a bridge in Kyoto with homeless people for twenty years before founding Daitokuji and several other compelling examples.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>What strikes me here with the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span>sustained development of a womb of sages, post-satori practice in Dogen\u2019s Zen, is that it looks like pre-satori practice!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span>Before satori, arrange the implements and prepare the food.
