It\u2019s a important conversation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>Here\u2019s my comment:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><i><span style=\"font-size: large\">Thanks Jiryu for bringing this up. It\u2019s one of my major\u00a0 concerns about Zen these days. I crunched the numbers from the Soto Zen <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a> Association site a few years ago and found the the mean birth year of those with <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>dharma<\/a> transmission was 1946 and 1952 for priests in training. <\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><i><span style=\"font-size: large\">It is as bad as you think. Or worse. Sitting out here in the fly-over, I hear that SF is a big exception. I hope that\u2019s true.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><i><span style=\"font-size: large\">I think one of the main causes is identified above \u2013 the present \u201cZen Center\u201d configuration is designed by and for baby boomers. Easy-going schedule, focus on belongingness needs, and volunteering for labor intensive tasks. That\u2019s gotta change.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><i><span style=\"font-size: large\">Katagiri Roshi often exhorted us about our responsibility to transmit to the next generation.
