The usefulness of these openings exists only if they clarify life and our ability to live it and serve it.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\">I read this as I made the final preparations for the Introduction to the Wild Fox Online Community (<a href=\"https:\/\/wildfoxzen.webex.com\/wildfoxzen\/ldr.php?AT=pb&amp;SP=MC&amp;rID=37301132&amp;rKey=9b048816ca46ea1b\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">click here for that<\/a>). We\u2019re about to enter into a 90-day practice period with a focus on living and serving, \u201c<span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>open and compassionate living,\u201d as Joko puts it.\u00a0 I imagine that many of the upcoming posts will swirl around that hitching post.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>Zazen will still be an important focus, of course, as will breakthrough experiences because there is no authentic Zen without these.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>However, I quibble with the venerable Joko suggesting that breakthrough experiences ought to be <i>used<\/i> in daily life. Using breakthroughs in daily life is a <a href=\"http:\/\/wildfoxzen.blogspot.com\/2009\/10\/100-days-webinar-4-fork-in-toilet-part_4649.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">fork in the toilet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>In my view, the most important thing learned from zazen and breakthrough is the utter non-utility of it all. \u201cUsing\u201d something for some gain, blinds us to the radiance of zazen, breakthrough, and hoar frost coating the trees.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>How can hoar frost be put to use?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><\/div>\n<div style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style='font-family: Georgia,\"Times New Roman\",serif'>The same way the carrot and the onion can be put to use in the kitchen. Each thing is exactly each thing.
