This from an email from one of the 100-day practitioners:<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\u201cThere is no goal \u2026 but at the same time there seems to be something to be had\u2026which is it?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
Neither. It is necessary to strive for the truth of dharma<\/a>. A willy-nilly zennish understanding \u201cit\u2019s already perfect blah blah blah\u201d \u2013 is just another belief system and has no power to \u201cripen the sweet milk of the long river\u201d or even free ourselves for a moment.\u00a0<\/span>
On the other hand, all \u201csomethings\u201d are empty and dharma realization isn\u2019t some magical and childish thing that \u201cwe\u201d can \u201cget.\u201d That doesn\u2019t mean there is nothing that is realized. That goals are empty does not mean there are no goals.\u00a0 No goal afterall is a goal. There are no eyes (and yet through something these words are read), no ears (and yet through something these words are heard), no nose (and yet flowers and fried chicken have different smells).\u00a0<\/span>
\u201cWhat we attain,\u201d said Bokusan, \u201cis the capacity to practice one practice.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
<\/span>And Dogen, \u201cOn the Endeavor of the Way (Bendowa),\u201d put it like this:<\/span><\/span>
Although this inconceivable dharma is abundant in each person, it is not actualized without practice, and it is not experienced without realization. \u00a0When you release it, it fills your hand\u2013how could it be limited to one or many? \u00a0When you speak it, it fills your mouth\u2013it is not bounded by length or width.<\/i><\/span>
