\u201cZen Won\u2019t Save You?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yesterday I was working on our new web site for Great Tides Zen with Paul, a Zen student and our web guy. When we reviewed the events page with \u201cZen Won\u2019t Save You,\u201d he said something like, \u201cYou do terrible marketing! You know how they built the mega churches? It wasn\u2019t by saying they won\u2019t save you\u2026 even the Mormon\u2019s had a better idea with polygamy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now Paul is a wry and waggish fellow so I didn\u2019t take offense. Well, polygamy seems to be one of the worst ideas anyone ever came up with, so I did pause on that one.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Zen won\u2019t save you. That\u2019s what we\u2019ve got going for us. And like Mumon\u2019s verse for \u201cZhaozhou\u2019s Wash Your Bowls\u201d puts it:<\/p>\n

Because it is so very clear,
\nit takes so long to realize.
\nIf you only know that flame is fire,
\nyou\u2019ll find your rice has long been cooked.<\/em><\/p>\n

Zen won\u2019t save you. Can\u2019t save what\u2019s already saved.<\/p>\n
