Once Shishuang was in his room and a monk just outside the room\u2019s window called to him, \u201cMaster, why is it that I\u2019m so close, yet can\u2019t see your face.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Shishuang said, \u201cNothing in the whole world is concealed.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

I like this quirky monk, seeing his difficulty so concretely in the physical world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is it that I\u2019m so close, yet can\u2019t see your face?\u201d<\/p>\n

Seems to me that the monk must have been practicing diligently, throwing himself into zazen wholeheartedly, as if his hair were on fire.<\/p>\n

And coming so close to the true face, ever so close. And yet there seemed to be a barrier.<\/p>\n

I hear him imploring Shishuang, \u201cWhy can\u2019t I see the my true face? Why this subtle separation? What can I do? How I can leap the barrier?\u201d<\/p>\n

Shishuang speaks through the eye of kensho. \u201cNothing in the whole world is concealed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The truth of Zen is hidden in the open. No eyes, no ears, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind.<\/p>\n

The window and the wall, the passionate yearning for true nature and the barrier \u2013 the truth you\u2019ve been seeking for.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
