Roland is now roshi of the Temple of La Gendronni\u00e8re (170 km south of  Paris \u2013 biggest Zen place in Europe, I\u2019m told). Luc is doing some really interesting work composing vocal compositions for Dogen translations. Luc, pictured on the left above \u2013 nice posture, eh? \u2013 shares responsibility for Dojo Ho Sen, Antwerp, Belgium (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zenantwerpen.be\/?page_id=3\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">http:\/\/www.zenantwerpen.be\/?<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">page_id=3<\/span><\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Many, many books are written on zen these days, many bad, many good, but few, very few, that I really would recommend. Here we have such a book, one you can safely recommend to beginners, long-time practitioners, priests and teachers\u2026 Here we have a very honest, authentic book on zen practice, presenting profound teachings in a simple language.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">The subjects that are touched and elaborated vary from basic practice to considerations on the future of zen in the west (equally interesting, of course, for us Europeans\u2026) The stories Dosho tells us are deeply moving, often funny, and very recognizable.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">For me, <\/span><\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Keep Me in Your Heart Awhile<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"> is a presentation of the present teaching of Dosho Port, and at the same time, a tribute to Katagiri Roshi, also a bit of history of the development of Soto Zen in the US: these 3 are not separate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">If you want to read more of Katagiri Roshi \u2013 and who wouldn\u2019t! after having read this book -, there is enough: <\/span><\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Returning to Silence<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"> (1988), <\/span><\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">You Have to Say Something<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"> (1998) and <\/span><\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">Each Moment is the Universe<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"> (2007)\u2026.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Quote-right\" src=\"https:\/\/a3.ak.lscdn.net\/images\/quote-right.png\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/4330911338438640912-1135276287830881060?l=wildfoxzen.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I received this very nice, unsolicited review of my book the other day and have been considering sharing it or not \u2026 and in the spirit of laughing at myself and preaching to the choir, I\u2019ll throw it out there anyway.
