The first part is below (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/wildfoxzen.blogspot.com\/search?q=sweet+milk\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">click here<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:lucida grande\"><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">I think this theme is really important, especially in the context of Lou Nordstrom\u2019s experience (deconstruction leading to \u201cthe invisible man\u201d) reported in the New York Time\u2019s Magazine (see link in the last post). Roshi emphasizes the reconstructive side and encourages us to take responsibility for living a creative life through the (seemingly) small details. I\u2019ve left some of Roshi\u2019s odd expressions alone (i.e., \u201cnever be drifted\u201d).  Although they aren\u2019t standard, his way of thinking isn\u2019t either and his grammar sometimes reflects that very clearly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">And now, here\u2019s Roshi (starting with the last part of the <\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">Genjokoan<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">):<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">The wind of the <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhism<\/a> makes manifest the great Earth\u2019s goldenness and makes ripen the sweet milk of the long rivers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cInstead of drifting in the ocean, you can sail across the ocean in human life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cDogen Zenji mentions in the Shobogenzo, life is like riding in a boat, because the whole big ship of the whole universe where you ride is going, carrying you.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">Then we don\u2019t know in which way to go. People say, \u201cWe don\u2019t know what will happen in the future so let\u2019s leave it to fate.\u201d<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">This is exactly drifting, be drifted in the ocean. It is not good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cDogen Zenji mentions please use the oar to row the boat. I mention constantly if we really practice spiritual life we can not carry spiritual life in terms of our understanding.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">In order to practice for long run, live in vow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cVow means live life in peace and harmony with deep aspiration with all living beings. Living in vow is not to have a big expectation, expecting big things you can do.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">What we can do is just a little tiny things one by one. <\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">When getting up in the morning, get up within the activity of getting up in the morning. This is a whole way to go through peaceful doors of peaceful world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cThat\u2019s why we take best of care of the activity of getting up in the morning, doing zazen, eating breakfast. It\u2019s not unusual outstanding human activity. Where is the door going through the peaceful world?<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">The door is yur everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cAll we can do is constantly form the habit of thoroughly doing small details in our everyday life. Usually a habit is made with our desires. Living in vow is to do small things, carrying forever without desire for something else.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cThat\u2019s why Dogen Zenji mentions, \u201cPractice Buddhadharma for the Buddhadharma.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cHow can we build up the human world, ripening the sweet milk?<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">What is the destination? When we do gassho, just do gassho for gassho.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">Then the door to the peace is right under our feet.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">It\u2019s not big stuff. It\u2019s not big deal.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">We vow to carry this tiny deal forever, under any circumstances, beyond the satisfaction of our desire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cFor what end? Long journey of human life.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">A long journey is already sweet milk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cIf you don\u2019t understand it\u2019s because you see your life covered with suffering, pains, etc.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">So Dogen Zenji mentions please accept the taste of human life as sweet milk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"><br>\n<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">\u201cThis last sentence of <\/span><i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\">Genjokoan<\/span><\/i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size:medium\"> is the Buddha ancestors vow to live. It is not limited by school, sect or denomination. If we belong to a denomination, so-called Buddhism or Christianity, always we think in terms of a small, narrow understanding. If our body and mind biologically belongs to any denomination, that\u2019s fine. Then we have to live in a complete way.
