Anyway, we had our training group <\/span>Genjokoan<\/span><\/em> study last night. I\u2019ll be posting later about <\/span>Genjokoan <\/span><\/em>but for now here\u2019s a little excerpt from Trungpa\u2019s <\/span>Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism<\/span><\/em> about relationships within the dharma<\/a> community that came up during our check-ins\/capping phrase sharing. <\/span>Click here for the link to the whole passage in Google Books.<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span>\u201cSangha\u201d means \u201ccommunity of people on the spiritual path,\u201d \u201ccompanions.\u201d I am willing to share my experience of the whole environment of life with my fellow pilgrims, my fellow searchers, those who walk with me; but I am not willing to lean on them in order to gain support. I am only willing to walk along with them. There is a very dangerous tendency to lean on one another as we tread the path. If a group of people leans on one another, then if one should happen to fall down, everyone falls down. So we do not lean on anyone else. We just walk with each other, side by side, shoulder to shoulder, working with each other, going with each other.<\/span><\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n

Although I agree wholeheartedly, when I hear the <\/span>Rinpoche<\/span><\/a> say that we don\u2019t lean, it sounds overly idealistic. So today (seasoned and tenderized by having witnessed falls and fallen myself) I\u2019d say it differently. It is from falling that we learn how we\u2019ve been leaning. And then we can stand up, shake off the dirt, and keep walking. <\/span><\/div>\n
