As the year comes to an end, I\u2019ve found myself reflecting on the year past and the year ahead. Late last night, I pulled <\/p><\/span>Awesome Nightfall<\/span><\/a><\/span> off the shelf and began reading in earnest, surprised to find similar struggles in Saigyo. \u201cLeaving the world\u201d (as priest ordination is called), yet still very much pulled toward the world and by it. Here\u2019s one poem.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Shaking the bell<\/span><\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
on this mountain, am I loosened from<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
the world now?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Can I shake my self enough<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
to know what lies ahead for me?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
