I stumbled on Dogen also chewing on this wonderful tail.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><br><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">So first the koan with verse and then Steven Heine\u2019s translation from\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">A Blade of Grass<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0(apparently out of print)<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><br><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">Wu-tsu said, \u201cIt is like a buffalo that passes through a latticed window. Its head, horns, and four legs all pass through. Why can\u2019t its tail pass through as well?\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><br><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><br><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">Verse:<br>Passing through, falling in a ditch;0<br>turning beyond, all is lost.<br>This tiny litle tail \u2013<br>what a wonderful thing it is!<br><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><br><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">The world \u2014<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">Like a [buffalo\u2019s] tail<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">Not passing through the window,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">Although no one is there<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">Holding it back.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><br><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">No one holding back and yet something always left out.
