The basis of zazen is the belief<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">that we are already Buddha and the posture is the clearest expression of that truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">So when you sit down, pay attention to the specific ways in which the body is expressing<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">doubt and not expressing Buddha, wholehearted dropping away. Are the shoulders tense?<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">Is the back slouched? Is the back straining to be straight? Is the head tipped back in a spaced-out pose? Or is the jaw pushed forward as if trying to bite into something?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">I\u2019m not saying there is one way to be or do zazen (or one perfect Buddha state) \u2026<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">what I\u2019m suggesting is that if you want to digest the issue of belief and doubt, become<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">intimate with these dynamics in the zazen you are doing every day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">It is as if the body is in dialogue \u2013 \u201cI believe that I am Buddha and so I\u2019m willing to sit<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">here for a while\u201d and \u201cI don\u2019t really believe that I am Buddha so I may sit here for awhile<\/span> <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">but I\u2019m not really going to let go and completely become this posture.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">How is it for you?<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/4330911338438640912-9060516988576275774?l=wildfoxzen.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So said one practitioner on the training blog.
