Hello there, Wild Goosers! Welcome to Oregon, and the best summer in the United States.*<\/p>\n

We here at Burnside Books<\/a> can\u2019t tell you how pleased we are that the Wild Goose organizers chose to hold their first West Coast iteration in our backyard. Though, by \u201cbackyard\u201d, I suppose I mean \u201ca two-hour drive south\u201d. Corvallis is a pretty town, even if it houses only the second-best college football team in Oregon. (Go Ducks.)<\/p>\n

We\u2019re also happy that Wild Goose West coincides with Burnside Books\u2019 first official release. We\u2019ve been working diligently for the past year on sculpting our daring little indie publishing house. We\u2019re now mere weeks away from the release of Thin Blue Smoke, a beautiful and engaging novel penned by journalist Doug Worgul. We can\u2019t imagine a better book to start with, or a better place to launch than Wild Goose West. On top of being a highly compelling read, Thin Blue Smoke captures themes close to Wild Goose attendees\u2019 hearts: community, beauty, story, and faith. It\u2019s a novel I compare with David James Duncan\u2019s The Brothers K and Marilynne Robinson\u2019s Gilead. It\u2019s a novel we think you\u2019ll love as much as we do, which is to say a great deal.<\/p>\n

Since Wild Goose folks are the people we want to read our books, and since the Festival marks our initial foray into publishing, we figured a special promotion was in order.<\/p>\n

For this week only, we\u2019re offering electronic copies of Thin Blue Smoke for $3.99 on Nook<\/a> and Kindle<\/a>. We hope you\u2019ll download it, read it, and spread the word, partly because we don\u2019t have massive advertising budgets and word-of-mouth is the best kind of marketing anyway.<\/p>\n
