By fluke or the dint of Providence, I fell in with a group of like-minded schemers who similarly wanted to talk and debate and discuss the very things that I did: theological doctrines, philosophical underpinnings, and radical visions of church and kingdom.\u00a0 Those were heady days.<\/p>\n

As we grew older (and wiser?), we found more and more people who shared our sensibilities, who wanted to think about and practice the Christian faith in a way that was both primitive \u2014 without the accouterments of modernity \u2014 and leaning into the future.\u00a0 We envisioned a movement that would reshape Christianity and maybe society.<\/p>\n

These days, I sometimes despair of that vision, but more often I am filled with hope that it may, indeed, be gaining traction.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to Wild Goose because I hope and believe that it will be just like those gatherings of a decade-and-a-half ago, only writ large.\u00a0 I think Wild Goose is the next domino to fall in the movement that is reshaping the church and society\u2026.but, more importantly, reshaping me.<\/p>\n

Tony Jones is the author of\u00a0The New Christians: Dispatches from the Emergent Frontier<\/a> and is theologian-in-residence at Solomon\u2019s Porch in Minneapolis. He is the author of many books on Christian ministry and spirituality and is a sought after speaker and consultant in the areas of emerging church, postmodernism, and Christian spirituality.
