The ultimate goal, ideally, is to raise the standards of journalistic discourse regarding our faiths from within and without. Consider it an exercise in advocacy journalism, where a decidedly “pro-Paganism” view is exercised. As for the name itself, I feel the Wikipedia article on the subject sums things up rather well.

What is “modern Paganism”?

Modern or “neo” Paganism is (according to Wikipedia): “an umbrella term used to identify a wide variety of new religious movements, particularly those influenced by ancient and pre-Abrahamic Pagan religions.” Like all umbrella terms it has its limitations and dissenters, but serves well enough when speaking broadly about our diverse faith communities. Some modern Pagan religions include Wicca, Druidry, Asatru (who often prefer the term “Heathen” over “Pagan”), the Goddess movement, Celtic Reconstructionism, Hellenismos, and several other distinct faith groups.

Do you cover other religious traditions?

Yes. I will often deal with religions and philosophies that have ties to the modern Paganism community like Aleister Crowley’s Thelema, the Afro-Diasporic faiths (Vodou, Santeria, etc), and various forms of occultism. In addition, I will sometimes cover stories involving indigenous religions, Hinduism, and other non-monotheistic faith communities.

What is your opinion of Christianity?

I’m not anti-Christian. I feel that several strains of Christianity have valuable qualities that are admirable. I encourage respectful discourse with Christians whenever possible. That said, I have no qualms about criticizing Christians who attack or slander modern Pagan faiths, or try to meddle with our religious freedoms. In general I feel the “dominant monotheisms” (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) have far too much cultural and political power, and I actively advocate for the growth of religious diversity and non-monotheistic conceptions of the divine. I have a dim view of “missional” activities and other attempts to “convert” the world.

What is the political stance of this blog?

While I tend to “lean left” in my personal political views, my blog doesn’t advocate for a specific political party or ideology. If this blog has a political stance it is a “pro-Pagan” one, and political issues important to modern Pagans like environmentalism and religious freedom will be covered when appropriate. Pagan and non-Pagan readers from across the political spectrum are welcome to engage in respectful discourse.

In regard to issues and controversies within the Pagan community, while I tend to stay neutral regarding doctrinal splits, I won’t hide my opinion of broader issues within the Pagan/Heathen community(s).

Will you review my book/CD?

I’m always open to reviewing work that meshes with my interests.

Books. Generally speaking I am interested in books on religion and modern Paganism that go beyond the obvious overview or the easy sell.
