On this\u00a0Mother\u2019s Day<\/a> let\u2019s not forget the mother(s) of us all.<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrations of mothers and motherhood occur throughout the world. Many of these trace back to ancient festivals, like the Greek cult to\u00a0Cybele<\/a>, the Roman festival of\u00a0Hilaria<\/a>, or the Christian\u00a0Mothering Sunday<\/a> celebration. However, the modern holiday is an\u00a0American<\/a>invention and not directly descended from these celebrations.\u00a0Despite this, in some countries Mother\u2019s Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Wikipedia<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here in the United States, Mother\u2019s Day was conceived by poet and social activist\u00a0Julia Ward Howe<\/a>. Her\u00a0\u201cMother\u2019s Day Proclamation\u201d<\/a> was a pacifist reaction to the Civil and Franco-Prussian wars. In it, Howe urges all women from around the world to meet and settle the differences of the world.<\/p>\n

In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
\nThat a general congress of women without limit of nationality
\nMay be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient
\nAnd at the earliest period consistent with its objects,
\nTo promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
\nThe amicable settlement of international questions,
\nThe great and general interests of peace.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For me, I think both themes are worthy to be celebrated this day. Have a happy and joy-filled Mother\u2019s Day. Honor the mothers in your life, divine and mundane.
