Catholic Priests are having a tough time staying out of the news these days. Sex scandals are blowing up all over the country. If that wasn’t hard enough for the leadership to manage, now two priests were arrested for getting busy in public. Officers found the two men performing sexual acts on one another on Ocean Drive in Miami, Florida. The archdiocese has removed them from ministry.
Cardinal Blase Cupich said that Diego Berrio a pastor at Mision San Juan Diego in Arlington Heights, Illinois was removed from the ministry. Diego also withdrew his faculties to minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
A second Priest from Colombia, Edwin Giraldo-Cortez, who worked for one month in August in Chicago, will no longer be allowed to minister in Chicago.
All of this started when police noticed two men in a car on Ocean Drive in Miami. The police located the men at 3:20 pm on Monday, September 3rd in a car parked on the side of the road. When police arrived, they found Giraldo-Cortez and Berrio performing sex acts one another.
Officers asked the men to roll their window down. Once the window was down, officers noticed that one of the men had their penis exposed. Their car was in full view of passers-by. The car did not have tinted windows.
Authorities arrested the Berrio for Lewd and lascivious behavior. Giraldo-Cortez received a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct and indecent exposure.
The Cardinal from Chicago was quick to make a statement to the press. He said:
“It is our responsibility to ensure those who serve our people are fit for ministry. We take this matter very seriously and will provide updates as they become available.”
Interesting how the Catholic church seems to have double standards regarding sex crimes. When two gay priests perform sex acts on one another, the church removes them from their positions. However, priests that rape children can continue to work for the church at different parishes. Perhaps this is in line with the statements of a Bishop in Madison who said the real problem of the church was the homosexual subculture.
The Catholic Church leaders are hypocrites in their management of the sexual acts as priests.
