Amber Portwood won a major victory in court related to her July 5th arrest for domestic battery. Portwood’s castmates from Teen Mom OG, Gary Shirley, Kristina Shirley, her mother Tonya, and MTV producers all tagged along to show their support.
During her first pre-trial hearing, Portwood’s attorney requested that the court lift the no-contact order between Portwood and her son James. Prosecutors objected to the motion by the defense. After hearing the arguments, the judge agreed to lift the no-contact order.
According to court records obtained by WOACB, the judge ordered that Amber Portwood only see her son under supervision. Visits with James will be arranged through her Child in Need of Service case.
Following the order of the court, the state filed a motion to request video monitoring during Portwood’s supervised visitation. The judge has not made a ruling on the motion yet.
Following the hearing, Portwood smiled as she left the courtroom. She hugged her mother and appeared happy with the decision by the court.
While the court lifted the no contact order with James, the no contact order related to Andrew Glennon remains effective.
Radar Online confirmed that MTV cameras were on location to film the proceedings. However, the judge did not allow cameras in the courtroom. Filming for the current season of Teen Mom OG is complete.
MTV decided to shoot because the hearing is a big part of Amber’s story on the show. Teen Mom OG ratings have been plummeting this season. The network has not announced if they will renew the series.
Amber Portwood is facing three felony charges related to the July 5, 2019 attack on her boyfriend Andrew Glennon. She is accused of hitting her boyfriend in the neck with a shoe while he held their one-year-old son. Additionally, prosecutors say Portwood wielded a machete against Andrew Glennon and slashed at a door that he sat behind.
In 2011, Portwood pleaded guilty to multiple felonies related to an altercation with her ex-fiance Gary Shirley. She served 17-months in prison for the fight. Because Amber is a convicted felon, she could spend 2.5 years behind bars if she is convicted on all the charges.
