A Florida policeman was arrested last week and accused of urinating in the mouth of a child under the age of six. Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy Jerome Zaid is facing multiple charges related to the abuse that spanned two years.
According to a press release by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, officers arrested Jermone Zaid on charges of battery of a child and sexual battery of a child. Escambia County Sheriff’s Office turned over the case to FDLE after they learned about the allegations against Zaid. FLDE issued the arrest warrant after completing a full investigation.
Agents that investigated the case state that Zaid assaulted at least two children under the age of six-years-old. Additionally, they believe there may be more victims associated with Zaid.
Then the agency released an arrest warrant for Zaid. Multiple media outlets in Florida reported the disturbing details in the affidavit. According to the Pensacola News Journal, a six-year-old girl accused Zaid of urinating in her mouth.
During a forensic interview at Gulf Coast Kid’s House, the girl shared the horrific details of the abuse. The girl stated that on multiple occasions Zaid placed his penis inside her mouth and urinated.
After he urinated, the girl said he instructed her to spit it out and brush her teeth.
When the agents asked the girl if Zaid put his penis inside of her mouth, she told them he put it “all the way” in. Additionally, she said he often told her to open up her mouth so he could assault her.
According to the girl, the assaults occurred most often in bathrooms. However, she recounted one time when she wore a yellow tutu butterfly costume. She said the most recent incident happened on July 17, 2019.
Following the interview, the agents spoke with adults connected with the girl to verify her story. An adult said that the girl wore a butterfly costume for Halloween when she was three years old. Additionally, the adult stated that Zaid spent time alone with the girl not long after Halloween. Another adult confirmed that the girl had recently spent time alone with Zaid on July 17.
With confirming statements by third parties, agents arrested Zaid for his crimes against the girl. The agency says that another child was also assaulted while under his care. However, the second child’s accounts were not released in the affidavit.FLDE arrested Zaid on July 26, 2019, and booked into Escambia County Jail on a no-bond status. According to Florida laws, Zaid is facing a mandatory sentence of life in prison if he is convicted on the charges. Escambia County Sheriff’s Office told Pensacola News Journal they are in the process of terminating Zaid from the Sheriff’s Office.
Due to Zaid’s employment as a deputy, FLDE stated they will not release his mugshot.
Escambia County Sheriff’s Office did not release how they learned about the allegations against the girl. The victims in the case are not being identified because they are minor children.
The little girl, in this case, is incredibly brave for coming forward and sharing her story. Zaid used his position of authority to abuse the girl over the course of two years. Due to their relationship, the incidents must have created a lot of confusion in the young girl’s mind.
There are no details related to the well-being of the victims in the case. Hopefully, their families are seeking professional help for their children to help them process traumatic events.
