I\u2019ve bemoaned that I couldn\u2019t create separate pages on blogspot.<\/p>\n<p>I really needed separate pages so I could index the recipes I publish. \u00a0I\u2019m not sure any of you care about my recipes, but I do, and I wanted a quick way to find them!<\/p>\n<p>So lo and behold, I happened to look on the toolbar yesterday, and right there in front of my eyes there\u2019s a link that says \u201cEdit Pages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEdit Pages\u201d? \u00a0If there\u2019s a toolbar for edit pages, surely there\u2019s an ability to create a separate page??<\/p>\n<p>As my kids would say, \u201cDuh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Have I ever said before I\u2019m not known for my spatial-visual abilities?<\/p>\n<p>So now dear friends and readers, if you just have to have my great granola or Mom MacLean\u2019s deviled eggs, or Auntie Heather\u2019s taco dip, just click on the recipe page and on the name of the recipe. \u00a0You can read my blog that accompanies the recipe, or just scroll down to what you want.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mmm-yoso.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b81169e2012875bb4111970c-400wi\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"223\" src=\"https:\/\/mmm-yoso.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b81169e2012875bb4111970c-400wi\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>To celebrate figuring all this out, today I\u2019m giving you all the gift of my version of Portuguese Bean Soup. <\/p>\n<p>Portuguese Bean soup is a staple in Hawaii. \u00a0My sophomore year of high school I served in the Portuguese Bean soup booth at Punahou Carnival and got a gigantic shirt with the recipe printed on front. <\/p>\n<p>That recipe, plus my own modifications, serve as the basis for this soup.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Portuguese Bean Soup<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>1 lb kidney beans or small red beans, cooked (or about 4 cans worth)<br>2 ham hocks<br>4 sprigs celery, diced<\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">4 carrots, diced<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">3 onions, diced<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">4 cloves garlic, minced<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">1 28 oz can diced tomatoes<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">2 tbs. chili powder<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">1 Tbs. cumin powder<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">3 Bay leaves<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">1 Tbs. oregano<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">4 cups chicken broth<\/div>\n<p>10 oz. \u2013 1 lb. Portuguese sausage, quartered lengthwise and then sliced so you have little pizza slice shaped sausages (linguica or chourico on the Mainland, if you can get Redondo hot sausage from HI, I think that\u2019s the best\u2013my mother brings it to me when she visits)<\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00bd head cabbage, sliced into strips<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">2 potatoes, cubed<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">1 cup cooked macaroni (can use whole wheat)<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Salt and pepper to taste<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in\">1.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"margin-left: .75in;text-indent: -.25in\">1.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Most tasty:\u00a0 Boil ham hocks and beans covered with water in a large pot.\u00a0 Bring to a simmer until meat falls off ham hocks (can be several hours) <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-left: .75in;text-indent: -.25in\">2.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>More convenient:\u00a0 Combine in large pot beans, ham hocks, celery, carrots, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and spices.\u00a0 Pour water over it.\u00a0 Bring to a boil, then simmer for at least 30 minutes<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-left: .75in;text-indent: -.25in\">3.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Cut meat off ham hocks, add back to soup, discard skin and bone<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-left: .75in;text-indent: -.25in\">4.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Add sausage, cabbage, potatoes and chicken broth about 30 minutes before serving<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-left: .75in;text-indent: -.25in\">5.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Salt to taste<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\" style=\"margin-left: .75in;text-indent: -.25in\">6.<span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Add macaroni just before serving <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: .25in\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in\"><span style=\"font: normal normal normal 7pt\/normal 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0<\/span>1 \u00a0 Notes:<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">*Don\u2019t add macaroni to the soup if you think it\u2019s going to last more than this one meal\u2014the pasta will soak up all the liquid and become mushy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">**I find that between the ham hocks, sausage, canned tomatoes and low-sodium chicken broth, I don\u2019t need to add any more salt to the soup (shows how much sodium\u2019s hiding in various products!)<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For months now, ever since I used Word Press to publish the Boston Faculty Fellowship website (I don\u2019t know how to create websites. \u00a0I do know how to blog. \u00a0Hence a blog as a website!)
