Yes, I bought those Groupons TWO years ago.<\/div>\n
Sigh.<\/div>\n
Two years ago yesterday, 5 days before I left for China, Groupon published a deal with Photobook America. For $25, I could get $115 worth of Photobooks.\u00a0 Great deal, right?<\/div>\n

I knew I\u2019d want an album of our historic trip to China. \u00a0So I bought 5 Photobooks.\u00a0 Hey, I was being optimistic!\u00a0 After all, I had 2 years to do it.<\/div>\n
I figured I\u2019d make a China book, a wedding book (our photographer absconded with 1\/3 of our photo album, so I\u2019ve always wanted a new one), and some random albums because I haven\u2019t filed photos since going digital in 2004\u2014I\u2019ve printed photos but they\u2019re all sitting in a stack next to our pre-2004 photo albums.<\/div>\n
The Groupons have weighed on my mind these past 2 years.\u00a0 I knew I needed to make those albums.\u00a0 \u00a0I knew I\u2019d have to learn the Photobook software that I downloaded after returning from China.<\/div>\n
But I soon realized:\u00a0 THERE\u2019S NEVER A GOOD TIME TO MAKE PHOTO ALBUMS.\u00a0 As the late and great Steven Covey might say, no matter how important photo albums may be, making them never falls into the urgent category.<\/div>\n
Unless you\u2019ve got 5 Groupons expiring.<\/div>\n
So at great expense to my sleep, sanity, family relationships and even friendships, I\u2019ve run a marathon of photo album production.<\/div>\n
Scott and I were asked to preach at our church this past Sunday\u20141st<\/sup>\u00a0time in 12 years of attending the church.\u00a0 But instead of endlessly refining the sermon, I wrote it, and then went back to photobooks.<\/div>\n
As friends have come to swim and socialize, I\u2019ve sat next to them, computer in my lap and worked on photobooks.<\/div>\n
I\u2019ve neglected my children.\u00a0 I\u2019ve neglected my job.\u00a0 I\u2019ve neglected cooking.\u00a0 Yesterday I started at 9 a.m. and finished the 5th photobook at 12:45 a.m.\u00a0 Thank God Photobook still accepted the Groupon despite being cashed in 45 minutes late.<\/div>\n
In the process I\u2019ve realized several things:<\/div>\n
    \n
  1. It\u2019s healthier to work on photobooks than to eat, shop or imbibe for fun.<\/li>\n
  2. Reflecting on photos taken over the years inspires thankfulness.\u00a0 People are usually smiling, you see the key family events like black belt tests, vacations and holidays. \u00a0It warms my heart.\u00a0 A lot more than 70 hours of TV.<\/li>\n
  3. It\u2019s good to force a deadline for commitments you\u2019ll never keep on your own.\u00a0 I bought the deals knowing that I\u2019d make 5 photobooks because I\u2019m cheap and don\u2019t want to lose my money (same reason paying for a gym makes me exercise\u2014won\u2019t pay for something I won\u2019t use)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    So all in all, despite the sleeplessness and grouchiness of my kids who\u2019re realizing there\u2019s no food in the house (\u201cThere\u2019s not a single leftover!\u201d one just shouted as I write), I\u2019m glad I did it.<\/div>\n
    In fact, I\u2019m ready to purchase my next Groupon deal if they offer it again\u2014maybe even for five!<\/div>\n
