I recently attended a writer\u2019s luncheon at my church, where we were given the assignment of writing a 6 word poem about either our life story or writing.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Here\u2019s mine:<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/a>God called<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
I obeyed<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
I write<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
That very morning, as I served on the prayer ministry team, a woman told me that God gave her a picture of me writing.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cYes, and. . .?\u201d (Hoping that she had visions of what I\u2019m supposed to be writing, that I\u2019m supposed to get published, that someday fame and fortune will be down my road. . .)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cYou were writing.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cAnd???\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>

<\/span>
That was it. \u00a0Other than her free advice to self-publish rather than go for publishers.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Sigh.\u00a0 Believe it or not, that\u2019s the 3rd<\/sup> time someone\u2019s told me God told them I should be writing.\u00a0 By the 2nd<\/sup>time, I realized God telling you to do something doesn\u2019t necessarily mean it\u2019s going to be easy or fun or sorrow-free.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Take marriage for example. \u00a0Have you met (or perhaps experienced yourself) someone who God told them who they were going to marry? \u00a0Well according to some wise folks who know a lot about hearing from God, if God tells you who you\u2019re supposed to marry, it\u2019s because the marriage is going to be so challenging that you will need to remember God gave you a special word so that years later when you\u2019re miserable and tempted to leave you know God was in it all along.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
God didn\u2019t tell me I was supposed to marry Scott, but God did give little hints, with 2 very trusted \u201cgood-at-hearing-from God\u201d folks telling me I was going to get married right before and right after we had our \u201cRDT\u2013Relationship Defining Talk.\u201d \u00a0And indeed, in the first 10 years of our marriage\u2013which were really really really hard\u2013as I wondered whether I\u2019d made the worst mistake of my life, I\u2019d remember God\u2019s hand in it all and hope and trust and obey.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
So here I am now. \u00a03 different folks have heard from God on my behalf that I need to be writing. \u00a0And rather than assume it\u2019s because fame and fortune will follow, I\u2019m assuming it\u2019s because I need that encouragement along this long journey.<\/span><\/div>\n

So I write.<\/span><\/div>\n
