Someone defaced a Gap subway advertisement<\/a> featuring a Sikh model with the caption, \u201cMake love,\u201d with the words, \u201cmake bombs,\u201d and \u201cplease stop driving taxis.\u201d \u00a0A senior editor for Islamic Monthly posted the defaced ad on his Twitter and Facebook accounts because, he said, \u00a0he wanted the world \u201d to see how millions of brown people are viewed in America today.\u201d (see the photo below)<\/p>\n

Gap saw the ad and immediately changed it\u2019s Twitter background to show the Sikh model (photo below)<\/p>\n

According to the story in the Huffington Post<\/a>, some in the Sikh community started a Twitter Thank You, Gap campaign.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students might find this story interesting on a couple of levels. It shows that some Americans still misunderstand and fear other religions. And on another level, it shows the power of social media.<\/p>\n
