<\/iframe><\/p>\nTeaching Hinduism? \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.himalayanacademy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Himalayan Academy<\/a>, which publishes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hinduism Today magazin<\/a>e, just released a new 23 minute documentary about the origins and features of Hinduism. It is ideal for both world history students and religion students.<\/p>\nThe documentary is engaging and includes great photography. It\u2019s divided into five short parts: origins, sacred texts, Hindu society, \u00a0beliefs and practices, and finally, festivals.<\/p>\nOne way the film engages students is by juxtaposing ancient beliefs and ritual with modern beliefs. \u00a0For example, you\u2019ll see an ancient fire pit followed by clips of contemporary Hindus involved with fire worship. \u00a0You\u2019ll see a 2000 year old stone carving of a Hindu meditating in the lotus position followed by a contemporary \u00a0Hindu meditating in the same way.<\/p>\nAccording to Murali Balaji, a director of education at the Hindu American Foundation,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/murali-balaji\/history-of-hindu-india-a_b_5574691.html#:\/\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"> and writing for the Huffington Pos<\/a>t, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.himalayanacademy.com\/blog\/taka\/2014\/06\/27\/history-of-hindu-india-part-one-video-released-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">the film was made in response<\/a> \u00a0to \u201cthe problem of negative portrayal of Hinduism and India in school textbooks.\u201d<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Teaching Hinduism? \u00a0The Himalayan Academy, which publishes Hinduism Today magazine, just released a new 23 minute documentary about the origins and features of Hinduism.
