Radical <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a> monks, led by Ashin Wirathu, charge that the Rohingya Muslims want to create an Islamic state.<\/p>\n<p>Wirathu, who once called himself the \u201cBurmese bin Laden,\u201d wants to make sure that doesn\u2019t happen. \u00a0He leads a movement, called the 969 movement, that wants to dispel the Rohingya \u00a0from \u00a0Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p>The 969 movement uses terror like looting and arson in an attempt to force the Muslims out. In addition, they have forced most Rohingya into so-called refugee camps. Many in the press say these camps are not refugee camps but concentration camps.<\/p>\n<p>One characteristic of these camps, according to Reuters, <a href=\"http:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/12\/05\/uk-thailand-rohingya-special-report-idUKBRE9B400920131205\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">in a special report<\/a>, is the movement of Rohingya Muslims into trafficking rings. \u00a0That happens when the Rohingya flee into neighboring Thailand.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>As thousands of Rohingya flee Myanmar to escape religious persecution, a Reuters investigation in three countries has uncovered a clandestine policy to remove Rohingya refugees from Thailand\u2019s immigration detention centers and deliver them to human traffickers waiting at sea.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For all these reasons, the United Nations call the Rohingya Muslims one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/433\/2014\/07\/myNmr.png\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3668\" title=\"myNmr\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/433\/2014\/07\/myNmr-300x155.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two of the three videos clips below,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-18949781\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"> the first from the BBC<\/a>, and the second from Rohingya Video News, review who the Rohingya are and why they are being persecuted. \u00a0The third clip, from the Guardian, discusses Ashin Wirauthu and is definitely worth watching.<\/p>\n<p>In addition here are links to excellent stories about \u00a0the Rohingya and the Panthay and their tragic plight.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The New York Times<\/strong> has an excellent story about the Panthay, Chinese Muslims in Mandalay. The story is called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/07\/13\/world\/asia\/mandalays-chinese-muslims-chilled-by-riots.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;version=HpSum&amp;module=third-column-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mandalay\u2019s Chinese Muslims Chilled by Riots<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Al Jazeera<\/strong> has a number of good stories about the Rrohingya, one called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/features\/2014\/02\/myanmar-buddhist-rohingya-ethnic-divide-20142211421962209.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Myanmar\u2019s Buddhist-Rohingya ethnic divide,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0 another called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/asia-pacific\/2014\/01\/rohingya-deaths-denied-myanmar-government-2014117144738400365.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rohingya deaths denied by Myanmar governmen<\/a>t.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Time Magazine<\/strong> has a very readable story about the concentration camps called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/2888864\/rohingya-myanmar-burma-camps-sittwe\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">These Aren\u2019t Refugee Camps, They\u2019re Concentration Camps, and People Are Dying in Them\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Reuters<\/strong> has a disturbing story called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/12\/05\/uk-thailand-rohingya-special-report-idUKBRE9B400920131205\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Special Report \u2013 Thailand secretly dumps Myanmar refugees into trafficking rings<\/a>\u201c<\/li>\n<li><strong>New York Times<\/strong> columnist, Keaan Malik, has an edinteresting\u00a0itorial called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/05\/20\/opinion\/malik-myanmars-buddhist-bigots.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Myanmar\u2019s Buddhist Bigots<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Guardian<\/strong> has a story about the radical Buddhist monk, Wirthau, at the heart of the crisis in Myanmar.
