That\u2019s what the \u00a0Supreme Court is going to decide next year. A 12 year old \u00a0boy sued the US \u00a0government to allow the designation on his passport.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a big \u00a0deal. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/worldviews\/wp\/2014\/11\/05\/why-the-supreme-courts-born-in-jerusalem-case-is-such-a-tinderbox\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Washington Post<\/a> \u00a0calls it a tinderbox. \u201cThat\u2019s \u00a0because the issue of sovereignty over this ancient city is a very delicate matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2014\/11\/03\/361206259\/supreme-court-case-tests-status-of-jerusalem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">N<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2014\/11\/03\/361206259\/supreme-court-case-tests-status-of-jerusalem\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">PR notes that<\/a> \u201cIsrael considers Jerusalem its eternal capital and has controlled the city in its entirety since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, which saw Israel also seize the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Untied \u00a0States does \u00a0not \u00a0recognize Jerusalem as the capital \u00a0of Israel but many members \u00a0of Congress \u00a0do \u00a0and in 2002 passed a law allowing \u201cJerusalem-born applicants for U.S. passports to record their place of birth as \u201cIsrael\u201d if they so request.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Bush signed the law but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/11\/04\/us\/politics\/justices-consider-status-of-jerusalem-for-us-passports.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">according to the New York Time<\/a>s he said that\u00a0\u00a0said that \u201che would not follow the Jerusalem provision because it \u00a0\u2018impermissibly interferes with the president\u2019s constitutional authority to conduct the nation\u2019s foreign affairs.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>That \u00a0law is now \u00a0part of \u00a0the \u00a0case before \u00a0the \u00a0Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a review of the facts from NPR.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><embed width=\"400\" height=\"386\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/v2\/?i=361206259&amp;m=361206260&amp;t=audio\" wmode=\"opaque\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" base=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\"><\/embed><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can an American citizen list Israel as their \u00a0place of birth, instead \u00a0of \u00a0Jerusalem?
