<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p align=\"Left\">While everyone knows that the Dalai Llama heads <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Tibetan Buddhism<\/a>, fewer people know the equally popular <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a> singing nun, Ani Choying Drolma. She\u2019s recorded ten albums since 1994 and tours six months a year all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Drolma grew up in Kathmandu and began singing as a young teenager when a Rinpoche, or Llama, recognized her\u00a0talent and asked her to sing at Buddhist functions. Today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/03\/13\/134455191\/buddhist-nun-shares-the-sound-of-music\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">according to this story from NPR<\/a> in 2011, \u201cDrolma\u2019s music combines Tibetan melodies with traditional and contemporary instruments, like singing bowls and synthesizers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She uses the money she earns from her music to support charities and, notes NPR, \u201cshe\u2019s building Nepal\u2019s first kidney hospital and she runs a boarding school for girls\u201d through her own foundation called <a href=\"http:\/\/theanifoundation.com\/ani.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Ani Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can listen to some of her songs <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/artist\/ani-choying-drolma\/id309150470\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">here at Itunes<\/a>. \u00a0And\u00a0below you can listen to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/03\/13\/134455191\/buddhist-nun-shares-the-sound-of-music\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">this excellent 2011 NPR<\/a> story about Drolma.<\/p>\n<div>Finally, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/radionational\/programs\/rhythmdivine\/the-singing-buddhist-nun\/6276350\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Australian Broadcasting Corporation\u2019s RN<\/a> broadcast a story about Drolma this weekend to celebrate International Women\u2019s Day.These stories help humanize a religion for students and helps them see how some Buddhist women are fighting for women\u2019s rights.\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p align=\"Center\"><embed width=\"400\" height=\"386\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/v2\/?i=134455191&m=134507985&t=audio\" wmode=\"opaque\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" base=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\"><\/embed><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While everyone knows that the Dalai Llama heads Tibetan Buddhism, fewer people know the equally popular Buddhist singing nun, Ani Choying Drolma.
