Today, my religion students participated in their first Face to Faith<\/a>\u00a0video conference. It was part of the\u00a0organization\u2019s\u00a0 celebration of International \u00a0Women\u2019s Day.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 Betty Anne Donnelly,<\/a> who has worked with Catholic\u00a0organizations\u00a0all over the world in the areas of education, social justice and lay ministry, discussed womens\u2019 rights\u00a0within\u00a0the Catholic Church. She talked about working in the slums of\u00a0Lima\u00a0 Peru and about conversations with cardinals, one of whom told her that the biggest role for women was in the home. \u00a0She challenged my students to think about the importance of service,\u00a0maybe\u00a0for a year after college. She also asked them to think about their female heroes and why they were significant.<\/p>\n

The discussion took place through Skype and a bridging software called Bluejeans. \u00a0Ms. Donnelly was in\u00a0Massachusetts, the conference\u2019s\u00a0facilitator\u00a0was in England, and the technical specialist, who joined us at the beginning to make sure all systems were working, was in India.<\/p>\n

I think the students enjoyed the discussion and some, I think, \u00a0were as amazed as I was, at how easy it is to bring\u00a0interesting\u00a0people from around the world into your\u00a0classroom.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
