Washington, DC<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Moments ago, the Administration\u00a0released\u00a0its\u00a0eighth\u00a0revision<\/a>\u00a0to the Health and Human Service (HHS) Mandate.<\/p>\n

This is\u00a0latest step in the administration\u2019s\u00a0long retreat on the HHS Mandate. It is\u00a0the\u00a0eighth<\/a>\u00a0time in three years\u00a0the government has retreated from its original,\u00a0hard-line\u00a0stance that only \u201chouses of worship\u201d that hire and serve fellow believers deserve religious freedom.<\/p>\n

We look forward to reviewing the new rule and its implications for the\u00a0102\u00a0cases<\/a>, including religious charities like\u00a0Little\u00a0Sisters of the Poor\u202f(<\/i>see video<\/i><\/a>)<\/i>,\u00a0<\/i>Mother Angelica\u2019s Eternal Word Television Network (see video<\/i><\/a>), and religious colleges like\u00a0Colorado Christian University.\u00a0\u00a0Ninety percent\u00a0of religious\u00a0ministries\u00a0challenging the mandate\u00a0have received relief<\/a>\u00a0from the courts, and we are hopeful the administration\u2019s new rule will reflect the robust protections that have always been given to religious individuals in this country.<\/p>\n

Religious ministries in these cases serve tens of thousands of Americans, helping the poor and homeless and healing the sick. The Little Sisters of the Poor alone serve more than ten thousand\u00a0of the\u00a0elderly poor.\u00a0These charities\u00a0want to continue following their faith.\u00a0They\u00a0want to focus on ministry\u2014such as sharing their faith and serving the poor\u2014without worrying about the threat of massive IRS penalties.<\/p>\n

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty has led the charge against the unconstitutional HHS mandate,\u00a0winning a landmark victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in\u202fBurwell v. Hobby Lobby<\/i><\/a>.\u00a0It\u00a0currently represents\u00a0the\u00a0Little Sisters of the Poor, Mother Angelica\u2019s Eternal Word Television Network,\u00a0and\u00a0Colorado Christian University,\u00a0along with\u00a0many other<\/a>\u00a0religious ministries.<\/p>\n
