A few years ago, the Dalai Lama (seen above visiting Thomas Merton\u2019s grave) was asked the question \u201cwhat do you find most surprising about humanity?\u201d His reply,<\/p>\n

Man. \u00a0Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices his money to recuperate his health. \u00a0And then he is so anxious about the future that he doesn\u2019t enjoy the present; the result being he doesn\u2019t live in the present or the future; he lives as if he\u2019s never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.<\/em><\/p>\n

All truth is from God, see, no matter from whence we hear it. \u00a0Remember what Our Lord said at the Sermon on the Mount?<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?<\/em><\/p>\n

$\"\"$ <\/a>Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So do not worry and say, \u2018What are we to eat?\u2019 or \u2018What are we to drink?\u2019 or \u2018What are we to wear?\u2019 All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.<\/em><\/p>\n

Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.\u201d<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n
