It seems there was some talk of amendments to a Transportation Bill, that got side-swiped by the First Amendment to the Constitution. Mr. Reid complained.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere is a bipartisan bill to create and save jobs,\u201d the Democrat from Nevada said, noting it had required the input of four different committees. \u201cEvery state in the union is desperate for these dollars. But to show how the Republicans never lose an opportunity to mess up a good piece of legislation, listen to this: They\u2019re talking about First Amendment rights, the Constitution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reid fumed, \u201cThat is so senseless. This debate that\u2019s going on dealing with this issue dealing with contraception is a rule that hasn\u2019t been made final yet. There\u2019s no final rule.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUntil there\u2019s a final rule on this, let\u2019s deal with the issue before us. That\u2019s saving jobs for our country,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve never seen anything like this before. \u2026 Why don\u2019t we just calm down and see what the final rule is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reid\u2019s outburst followed a pitch from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who took to the floor following an objection to the \u201cReligious Freedom\u201d amendment offered by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The nerve of those guys, invoking the law of the land like that, you know, as if it had anything to do with governing our country. Oops.<\/p>\n
