U.S. Catholic Church blesses iPhone app for confession<\/h3>\n

-USA Today<\/p>\n

The U.S. Catholic Church has apparently given its blessing to an\u00a0iPhone app aimed at helping Catholics through confession<\/a>, Reuters reports.<\/p>\n

The $1.99 \u201cConfession: A Roman Catholic\u201d app guides Catholics through the sacrament and contains what the developer\u00a0describes<\/a> as a \u201cpersonalized examination of conscience for each user.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is not designed to replace going to confession but to help Catholics through the act, which generally involves admitting sins to a priest in a confessional booth. Catholics still must go to a priest for absolution.<\/p>\n

Among the\u00a0features<\/a>:<\/p>\n

-Custom examination of Conscience based upon age, sex, and vocation (single, married, priest, or religious)
\n-Multiple user support with password protected accounts
\n\u2013 Ability to add sins not listed in standard examination of conscience
\n\u2013 Confession walkthrough including time of last confession in days, weeks, months, and years
\n\u2013 Choose from 7 different acts of contrition
\n\u2013 Custom interface for iPad
\n\u2013 Full retina display support<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOur desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology,\u201d says Patrick Leinen of the Indiana-based Little iApps.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The company says Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne in Indiana officially authorized the app for Catholics to use.<\/a><\/p>\n
