Not that this will come as much of a surprise, but apparently\u00a0we are both apostate youth pastors. Although not necessarily for the reasons you might think, i.e. this blog. It seems that using\u00a0Facebook\u00a0is anti-Christian.<\/p>\n

A Catholic Parish Calls Facebook the \u2018Opposite of Christian\u00a0Culture\u2019<\/h1>\n

Just when the contentious relationship between the Catholic Church and Facebook seems to have settled down, parish leaders at St. John Cantius in Chicago put out a controversial letter in this past Sunday\u2019s bulletin, condemning the social networking site as a tool for vanity.<\/p>\n

The Chicago Tribune\u00a0reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201c[Facebook] is exactly the opposite of the Christian culture where people go into the secrecy and sacredness of the confessional to blot out their sins forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some members of the church\u2019s congregation would agree. One parishioner notes that he deactivated his Facebook account because his \u201cSingle\u201d status invited a hoard of advertisements for dating ads. \u201cI can appreciate a good-looking woman. But, as a single Catholic man who strives to remain faithful to the Church\u2019s moral teachings, I don\u2019t like blatantly sexualized photos enticing me to join \u2018dating\u2019 sites,\u201d\u00a0he tells the paper.<\/p>\n

The bulletin goes on to warn parents about the dangers of letting their kids use Facebook, saying that it distorts a child\u2019s sense of reality by allowing them to create disingenuous projections of themselves.<\/p>\n
