First things first.<\/p>\n

This is a bit convoluted, but I want to give credit where credit is due.<\/p>\n

I initially came across this story over at Christian Nightmares<\/a>, then read about it at Joe.My.God.<\/a>, before finally seeing the actual letter (seen below) at The Smoking Section<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ok, now that\u00a0we\u2019ve got\u00a0the formalities out of the way.<\/p>\n

Are you kidding?!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seem some ridiculous, absurd, and disgusting uses of the so-called prosperity gospel before, but this one ranks up there near the top.<\/p>\n

A \u201cpastor\u201d in Houston has sent out a letter begging his congregation for money to fix the church\u2019s helicopter.<\/p>\n

Wait, the church has their own helicopter?!<\/p>\n

I just\u2026.I mean what would you\u2026.oh never mind..<\/p>\n

In exchange for contributing the required $50,000 for the helicopter repairs, the \u201cpastor\u201d promises his congregation that God will give them, not just any car but \u201ca dream vehicle or luxury automobile.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unbelievable.<\/p>\n

I think what disgusts me most about frauds like this is that they build their mini-kingdoms largely by exploiting the poor and downtrodden. After all, if the rich wanted a car they would just go out and buy it. It\u2019s a lot easier to pray on the desperate with promises of divinely ordained miracles in exchange for a \u201csmall\u201d contribution\u2026.which for the people giving it is anything but small.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t get much more un-Christlike than that.<\/p>\n

It goes without saying that this guy is a crook and a disgrace.<\/p>\n

I just wish he couldn\u2019t hide behind the first amendment because he doesn\u2019t belong behind the pulpit.<\/p>\n

He belongs in jail.<\/p>\n
