It\u2019s January 13, and many\u00a0of us are feeling the sense of possibility that comes with a new year. But, many of us are also feeling a bit blue. There\u2019s\u00a0not quite enough sun around the Midwest these days, and Vitamin D levels, like daily temps, are in the teens or single digits. What\u2019s more, the holidays have reminded us of, not only the people who are with us, but also of those\u00a0who are not. This Christmas and New Year, my heart was especially heavy for Jonathan and Charlene.<\/p>\n

A little over a year ago, two days before Thanksgiving, Jonathan & Charlene\u2019s brown-eyed, 2-year old girl, Lucy, died in the middle of the night. Not all loss and grief can be weighed on the same scales \u2013 Lucy\u2019s death sank her parents, family, and greater\u00a0community into a dark, cold grief. While my pain shouldn\u2019t even be mentioned in the same paragraph\u00a0as Jonathan & Charlene\u2019s,\u00a0walking with this young couple through this experience\u00a0was one of the most painful, and privileged, moments of my life.<\/p>\n

One thing I appreciate\u00a0about our area of the country is that we\u00a0go through hard times together<\/em>. I wanted to write this post to share a song that Lucy\u2019s friends performed in her honor last year. Charlene, Lucy\u2019s mom, allowed me to take this from her blog: charlie girl<\/a>. (Btw, check out Charlene\u2019s blog\u2026 she\u2019s a great writer!) Here\u2019s what she\u00a0wrote about this video:<\/p>\n
