In April, 1945, Bonhoeffer was brought to the Flossenburg concentration camp in Bavaria, Germany, near the border with Czechoslovakia. There, he would be hung. What little we know about his final hours comes from the report of the camp doctor, who was himself a Nazi.

The doctor claimed that in the moments before Bonhoeffer died, he bowed to his knees and prayed fervently to God. He then got up, brave and composed, and met his death, which was quick and painless.
