God Has a Reason: A Biblical View of Human Sexuality and Sex

God blesses the marriage with the pleasure of sex and the enjoyment of sexual activity in the life of a Christian. Sex and sexual activity are to be experienced exclusively in a covenant marriage between a husband and wife. The pleasure of sex is connected to the act of procreation, which further illustrates God's intention for marriage and sexual relationships to be between a man and a woman.

God affirms sex and the pleasure that comes from it in the life of a Christian. God affirms sex when it is pursued and practiced according to his design. The enjoyment of sex is the result of God's good design. Though it involves pleasure, we all know that the pleasure is momentary. The fleeting pleasures of sex serve to direct the heart and mind of a Christian to the eternal and completely satisfying joy that is experienced through knowing God by faith in Jesus Christ. Sexual activity affirms the truth that this world does not fully satisfy, and Christianity points to a relationship with Christ as the source of real joy and satisfaction both now and for eternity.

God is glorified through sex. This does not mean that sex is some spiritual high or transcendent experience. Sex is spiritual in the sense that it impacts your relationship with God. Sex in and of itself does not change your soul or reality. But, when sex is experienced in the context of a marriage between husband and wife God is glorified. The reason this glorifies God is that the pursuit of holiness through faithfulness to his Word glorifies God. I readily admit that a positive conversation about sex from a Christian is not the norm, but it should be. The absence of sound, winsome, and active public conversations has done a disservice to the world. God has designed human sexuality, sex, and sexual activity for the purpose of his glory, personal pleasure and satisfaction, and procreation.
