  • Fun Fact:
The Fox sisters, Kate, Leah, and Maggie, were three sisters who are credited for America’s first spiritualist movement. The sister’s claimed that they were able to communicate with the spirits of dead people by rapping on the walls. They claimed to have communicated with a spirit they called “Mr. Splitfoot,” and the phenomenon quickly spread amongst locals. They toured the region to demonstrate their abilities while enduring criticism from people who were skeptical.  Kate and Margaret became well known mediums, giving frivolous seances for hundreds of people. The sisters eventually fell on hard times and renounced their claims of having special powers. Kate admitted that the girls had been cracking their toes to mimic rapping sounds from the dead.
